GOINGS ON : Taking a Trip to Paris Without Leaving Home : At the Fete Francaise, families partake of French food, culture and entertainment.

Bonjour . And welcome to the sixth annual Fete Francaise de Santa Barbara.

The two-day affair, held this weekend at Oak Park, will commemorate French Bastille Day, offering the expected 20,000 festival-goers a Parisian-esque experience--complete with a lofty Eiffel Tower adorning the sycamore-studded setting.

Fine foods galore here. Plus a schedule rich with live entertainment and activities for the whole family.

More than a dozen chefs will prepare French breads, pastries, pates, escargot , cheeses and other classic and nouvelle-cuisine preparations at makeshift sidewalk cafes.

Stroll among would-be Monet Impressionists working at their easels, flower and produce vendors at a bazaar and arts and crafts dealers displaying handmade wares.

Performing both days: Moroccan belly dancers, Basque dancers, classical musicians, accordion players, jugglers, puppeteers, mimes and more. A procession of French poodles will parade at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and classic French automobiles will be displayed both days.

Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Sans admission charge. Directions to Oak Park: Take the Pueblo Street exit when heading north on the Ventura Freeway and follow signs to the park. For more information, call 564-2525.

Pianist Carmen Or will perform a concert of selected works from Chopin and Beethoven tonight at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito.

Russian-born Or, who defected to Switzerland when she was 13, has performed throughout the world and is an artist-in-residence at UC Santa Barbara.

The 7 p.m. concert will be held outdoors at the picturesque 100-year-old guest ranch, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The ranch is at 900 San Ysidro Lane. Tickets are $25. Call (800) 368-6788.

This week’s schedule of concerts at the Music Academy of the West:

The Academy Series, featuring small ensemble performances by faculty members, continues Saturday with the Concerto Competition Finals. Winners will perform with the Festival Orchestra on Concerto Night, July 31. The competition will begin at 11 a.m. Tickets are $10.

Tuesday’s faculty program includes “Saint-Saens: Caprice on Danish and Russian Airs,” “Bloch: Sonata for Violin and Piano” and “Arensky: Trio in D Minor, Op. 32.” The concert will commence at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20.

Photographer Michael Moore traipsed through the rugged Los Padres National Forest to record tranquil scenes of conifer-laden mountain peaks, chaparral, a meandering Sespe River and ancient Chumash village sites. His mission: Expose the natural grandeur to the outside world with hopes of inspiring preservation of California’s third-largest forest.

Moore’s efforts will be displayed tonight at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. A slide presentation, set to music, will begin at 7:30.

Movie offerings:

The New Vic Theater presentations at the Bluebird Cafe continue Monday and Tuesday with Nicholas Roeg’s 1971 drama “Walkabout.” The 1971 Australian film--not available on video, according to the New Vic Theater folks--follows the journey of a teen-age girl, her brother and an aborigine through the harsh outback Down Under. Tonight, UC Santa Barbara’s Arts & Lectures presents “Danzon” (1992)--about a woman who lives for Mexico’s stylized passionate ballroom dance of this film’s title.

Sunday, Harrod Blank’s documentary “Wild Wheels,” which he researched by traveling across the U. S., searching for the wackiest and most artfully decorated vehicles he could find. Some of the more than 40 art-o-mobiles (sorry) discovered by Blake include a brass hippo on wheels, a car covered with living grass and another covered with water faucets.

UC Santa Barbara’s Theatre Artists Group presents Sir Noel Coward’s “Tonight at Eight” at the campus Studio Theatre. The show consists of two Coward comedic one-acts: “Ways and Means,” about British upper-class intrigue, and “Red Peppers”--in which a feuding vaudevillian couple antagonize each other backstage, affecting their onstage performance.
