LOS ANGELES : Denny Case Defendant Loses Bid for Lower Bail

Share

Superior Court Judge John W. Ouderkirk refused Friday to lower the bail of Antoine Eugene Miller, who is charged in the assault on trucker Reginald O. Denny and six other people at the intersection of Florence and Normandie avenues as rioting broke out in Los Angeles on April 29, 1992.

Attorney J. Patrick Maginnis, who represents Miller, 21, argued that because Ouderkirk had granted his client a separate trial earlier this week, it was clear that the prosecution case against Miller is weak and a bail reduction from $250,000 to $50,000 would be appropriate.

Miller had been scheduled to be tried with Damian Monroe Williams, 20, and Henry Keith Watson, 28, before he was granted a separate trial. All three face multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, stemming from the assaults at Florence and Normandie. Deputy Dist. Atty. Janet Moore, in arguing to maintain the bail, pointed out that the charges against Miller remain the same.
