Friends of an 11-year-old girl who was critically injured in a car wreck that killed her parents will hold a carwash today to help pay for medical and funeral expenses.

Karie Minzey, who remained in critical but stable condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, was riding with her parents, Mark and Noreen Minzey of Mission Viejo, at the time of the accident Sunday night on Santiago Canyon Road near Irvine Lake.

Mark and Noreen Minzey were killed instantly. Two other passengers in the car were injured, but treated and released.

Laguna Beach physician Ronald Joseph Allen, 31, was arrested after the crash and has been charged with two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter. Allen had a history of alcohol- and drug-related arrests before the fatal crash Sunday. He was being held without bail until his arraignment July 23.

The carwash will be held at Yorba Linda Shell station at Yorba Linda Boulevard and Lakeview Avenue between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, California Highway Patrol officials said Friday they were looking for a man and woman who stopped their motorcycle briefly at the crash site on Sunday.

Seconds after the head-on collision, one of the people riding the motorcycle leaned into Allen’s car, pulled out an opened bottle of red wine and tossed it about 50 feet into a clump of bushes, two witnesses told CHP investigators.

CHP officials said they do not think the motorcycle riders knew Allen and do not know why they tossed the bottle, which was later recovered and held as evidence.

“I’ve never heard of that happening before,” said CHP Officer Angel Johnson. “It’s outrageous that someone would do that. We’d like to talk to them to find out what is going on.”

Johnson said anybody who might have seen the accident or the motorcycle riders can call Officer Keith Thornhill at (714) 547-8311.
