A 10-year-old Oxnard boy was in critical condition at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after nearly drowning in the ocean off Port Hueneme, police said Sunday.
Fitzroye Lincoln was in the water around 3:30 p.m. when he was knocked unconscious by a series of waves and pulled out to sea by a strong rip current, said police spokeswoman Lisa Kiel. When lifeguards pulled him out of the water, Fitzroye was not breathing, Kiel said.
Five lifeguards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and were able to stabilize the youngster before taking him to the hospital. Kiel said the boy was at the beach with his aunt and brother.
