Rainbow Technologies Inc.: The Irvine software protection company reported a 29% increase in earnings for the second quarter. Profit was $1.8 million, or 33 cents a share, up from $1.4 million, or 27 cents a share, for the same period last year. Sales rose 55% to $9.9 million from $6.4 million. First-half earnings totaled $3.5 million, or 62 cents a share, up from a profit of $2.4 million, or 45 cents a share, a year earlier. Six-month revenue was $18.6 million, up $12.1 million.
