BASEBALL REPORT / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Galarraga Goes on Disabled List

Associated Press

The Colorado Rockies on Sunday placed Andres Galarraga, the National League's leading hitter, on the 15-day disabled list because of a knee injury.

After performing a magnetic resonance imaging test, doctors said Galarraga has a moderate sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

Team physician Wayne Gersoff estimated the first baseman would be sidelined three weeks.

The Pittsburgh Pirates shook up their shellshocked pitching staff Sunday by sending left-hander Denny Neagle to their triple-A Buffalo club.

The move, announced minutes after a 13-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves, is expected to be followed by two more pitching staff changes today.
