S. Asia Floods Kill 4,200; More Deaths Feared

NEW DELHI — South Asia’s worst floods in decades have killed at least 4,200 people in three of the world’s poorest nations, and more are likely to die of disease as waters recede, officials said Monday.
Unusually ferocious monsoon rains had swelled rivers across the region, causing widespread floods that inundated half of Bangladesh, devastated Nepal’s lowlands and ravaged vast tracts of northern and eastern India, officials said.
Although the floods have begun to recede in many areas, more deaths are feared from disease because regular water supplies have been contaminated.
