UC President Peltason Appointed to Board of AST

Jack Peltason has been appointed to the board of directors of AST Research Inc., an Irvine computer company. Peltason is president of the nine-campus University of California system. Before being selected for that position in 1992, he spent eight years as chancellor at UC Irvine. Peltason has also been president of the American Council on Education and was chancellor at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana for 10 years.

* Robert O. Aders has been selected as strategic adviser, food industry issues, for Catalina Marketing Corp., an Anaheim in-store electronic marketing company. He previously served for 17 years as president and chief executive of the Food Marketing Institute, whose membership includes 1,500 food retailers and wholesalers worldwide. Before joining the institute, Aders served as chairman of the board of the Kroger Co. He also held various positions in Washington, including acting secretary of labor during the Ford Administration.

* Fred G. Luke has been appointed chairman of the board and chief executive of Nona Morelli’s II Inc. in Irvine. Frank Morelli II has resigned as president and a director, but will stay on as a consultant to the company’s food-related subsidiaries. Luke has been the chairman and chief executive officer of New World Capital since taking over that privately held firm in 1991. New World is Nona Morelli’s largest equity holder. Earlier this month, Nona announced that it had substantially completed its restructuring to become a holding company. As part of the restructuring, the company transferred its frozen food facilities, its fresh pasta and sauce business and its gaming investments to subsidiaries.

* Jim Samuels has joined the Four Seasons Hotel in Newport Beach as director of marketing. He had been with Ritz-Carlton Co. since 1989, most recently as director of sales and marketing at the Rancho Mirage hotel.

* Celina Doka has been promoted to partner of KPMG Peat Marwick’s Orange County office in Costa Mesa. She joined the professional services firm in 1982 after graduating fromUCLA. In addition, Susanna Doudna has been appointed principal of KPMG. She joined the firm in 1984 after working four years in applications development for a software development company.

* Steven H. Grainer has been appointed vice president of engineering and service for MEC Elevator Co. in Cypress, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electronics America Inc. He will also continue his role as engineering and service manager. Grainer joined the company in 1986 as assistant engineering manager. He has also worked as engineering manager for Amtech Reliable Elevator Co., as an associate of Hesselberg, Keesee & Associates, and as a consultant at the architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

* Raymond Polverini has been promoted from director for project development to vice president of Santa Margarita Co. He is responsible for the sale and development of land in the town of Rancho Santa Margarita.
