No Growth at Big Firms: America’s 500 largest law firms experienced almost zero growth from 1991 to 1992, according to Of Counsel 500, a publication that reports on the legal profession’s demographics.

According to Of Counsel, there were 90,000 lawyers working at the top firms in 1992--only seven more than a year earlier.

Two firms based in Orange County made the 500 list: Rutan & Tucker in Costa Mesa and Stradling, Yocca, Carlson & Rauth in Newport Beach.

Rutan & Tucker reported a total of 109 lawyers at the start of 1993, compared to 102 the year before. Of its 53 partners, 10 are women and none are minorities. Among its 47 associates, there are 13 women and three minorities.

Stradling, Yocca reported a total of 72 lawyers at the start of 1993, compared to 75 the year before. Of its 34 partners, five are women; of the 34 associates, nine are women. The firm did not disclose its minority employment.
