Eli Broad, is retiring as chairman of Kaufman & Broad Home Corp., effective Aug. 31. Broad is being succeeded as chairman by Bruce Karatz, president and chief executive. Karatz will retain his old titles.

Broad, 60, will assume the title of founder-chairman and chairman of the executive committee.

Broad remains the largest individual shareholder of the Los Angeles-based home builder.

Whittaker Corp. named Thomas A. Brancati as president and a director.

Brancati, 57, who joined the company in 1987, was president of Whittaker’s electronic system division.

Before joining Whittaker, Brancati had been president and chief executive of Amex Inc. and executive vice president of Teledyne Systems Co. He had also held various executive and engineering positions at Grumman Corp., including vice president of Middle East operations and director of the F-14 aircraft program.

The Los Angeles firm designs, markets and distributes fluid control devices, cable systems, defense systems, pyrotechnic products for aerospace and other performance-critical applications.
