Share

Food, dancing, music and costumes from cultures across the globe will be represented at Kaleidoscope, an international festival taking place this weekend at Aldrich Park in UC Irvine.

The event runs on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will include arts and crafts, storytelling and children’s events.

A variety of performances are scheduled, from Iranian folk dancing to Irish step dancing. Food will be from Turkey, Chile, Mexico and other countries.

The public can view artwork at a gallery and visit exhibits that celebrate various cultures. One exhibit shows what a home in Turkey looked like in the 19th Century, while another display by an African-American group includes demonstrations of hair-braiding.

“This gives a sense of the beauty of other cultures,” said festival chairwoman Catherine Thyen. “For some, it’s actually a mini-trip around the world.”

Admission is $7 for adults. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
