THEY’RE BAAAAACK: Reports of the breakup of Wilson Phillips may have been premature. The trio of Chynna Phillips and Carnie and Wendy Wilson, which called it quits after its second album, 1992’s “Shadows and Light,” flopped, likely will reunite next year after completion of a Wilson sisters Christmas album and a Phillips solo record.
And SBK Records remains committed to the act. “Next year at this time we’ll be talking about an amazing Wilson Phillips album,” pledges Daniel Glass, chairman of the EMI Records Group, which includes SBK. “They’re still with us and doing great.”
Carnie Wilson is also eager to return to the trio format. “I hate to read people say we broke up,” says the daughter of Beach Boy Brian Wilson. “It’s not true.”
As for the Wilsons’ Christmas album, Carnie says it consists of their lushly harmonized versions of traditional holiday songs, plus an original number, “Hey Santa!,” which will be the title track. There’s also a tape from the mid-’70s of her, her sister and other children of the Beach Boys singing “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” which may be released as a bonus track.
