Anti-Tank Mines Found on German Roads

CELLE, Germany — Motorists discovered two armed anti-tank mines Sunday that could have killed anyone in a car that hit them.
The first mine was spotted by a British soldier when he stopped to investigate an obstruction in the road in Celle. A second mine was found by a motorist at the entrance to a parking lot in another part of the city, about 70 miles south of Hamburg.
A police spokesman said the mines had Cyrillic markings, which indicated that they may have come from armories of the former Soviet army in eastern Germany. There have been many reports of illicit munitions sales by withdrawing Russian troops.
