UPLAND : Relatives of 18-Month-Old Abandoned Boy Located
Relatives of a 1 1/2-year-old boy who was found in Huntington Park nearly two months ago have been located in Upland, authorities said.
Four relatives identified the child, whose name is Jose, after seeing his picture on television, said Steve Mickaelian of the county Department of Children’s Services. One of the relatives is believed to be the boy’s maternal aunt. Their names and the last name of the boy are being withheld until an investigation is completed, officials said.
Authorities are uncertain whether Jose was lost or abandoned June 11, when he was found in a clothing store. He showed no signs of abuse.
Relatives said the mother, who is in her 30s, has three other children living with their father in Mexico. She is believed to have suffered from depression, Mickaelian said.
Background checks are being conducted on the Upland relatives, Mickaelian said, and Jose could be turned over to them next week. The boy has been living with a La Puente foster family.
