Ventura County government officials are sponsoring a housing fair Tuesday to help potential home buyers qualify for loans.

The housing fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave. in Ventura.

The event will also include officials from the Ventura County Board of Realtors, Ventura County Economic Development Assn., escrow companies and lending institutions.

“Home buying is one of the best stimulators for a slow economy,” said Supervisor Vicky Howard, who is helping to organize the fair. “Home buyers spend money on insurance, escrow, home improvements, furnishing, decorating and landscaping. Many businesses benefit from these purchases.”

County officials are encouraging potential home buyers with household incomes ranging from $40,000 to $70,000 to attend the event.

“There are a lot of people out there who don’t think they can qualify for a loan, but they can,” said Ritch Wells, one of Howard’s administrative aides. “We will be giving out a multitude of information.”
