STUDIO CITY : Cancer Patient Support Organization to Fold

Share

Vital Options, a nonprofit support organization for young adults with cancer, will cease operations Friday because of insufficient operating funds, executive director Selma Schimmel announced.

Since 1983, the Studio City-based organization has provided emotional, psychological and educational services for people ages 17 to 40 with cancer, the only agency strictly devoted to issues facing young adults stricken with the disease. Schimmel founded Vital Options after she developed breast cancer at age 28.

The organization cannot continue to provide services because of a steady decline in funding from private sources over the past few years, Schimmel said in a statement.
