S. Korea Bans Use of Business Aliases: President Kim Young-sam announced the ban, saying that until real names are required for all financial transactions, democracy cannot take root and corruption and collusion between big business and politics cannot be halted in South Korea. He said Parliament will be called into special session next week to approve his decision. Approval is virtually assured. Billions of dollars are believed held under false names in bank accounts, securities and property. The practice of using aliases was introduced in the early 1960s, when the government began to push economic development after the Korean war.
