GLENDALE : Shuttle Service Postpones Fares

Share

A 25-cent fare that was to begin Monday on Glendale’s Beeline shuttle buses has been postponed until Sept. 13 to allow time to train drivers to collect the new fees, city officials said Thursday.

Rides on the buses, which have been operated since 1984, have been free since 1990 when the City Council voted to eliminate the fare in order to boost ridership.

The buses have since become popular, with more than 1.2 million passengers expected to board the shuttles this year.

Because of growing demand, the council in March voted to expand the service from three to five routes beginning in the fall. In addition, seven new buses with capacity for 40 passengers--twice the size of current shuttles--will be added.

After Sept. 13, passengers will be required to have the exact change for the 25-cent, one-way fare. The fare will be 15 cents for the elderly and the disabled. Children under 5 will continue to ride for free.
