MOORPARK : Smoking Ban Spurs Outside Inquiries

Share

In the week since Moorpark’s smoking ban went into effect, the city has been approached by several Ventura County municipalities looking for information on the law.

Mayor Paul Lawrason said he has given copies of the ordinance to officials from Thousand Oaks, Agoura Hills and Ojai and offered to help advise cities considering similar restrictions. Lawrason said he also discussed the law with city representatives at a recent Ventura Council of Governments meeting.

Moorpark officially went smoke-free last Saturday after council members voted unanimously June 17 to declare nearly all public places off limits to smokers.

The new law bans smoking in all enclosed places except bars and bar areas of restaurants that are sealed off from diners and equipped with separate ventilation systems. Lawrason said there have been no reported violations or problems with the ordinance in its first week.

“Everything seems to be working fine,” he said. “I’ve been in two or three of the restaurants and I haven’t heard anyone hollering at the restaurant owners or anything.”
