NORTH HILLS : Students to Train for Insurance Industry

Share

Monroe High School next month will begin the San Fernando Valley’s first school-based program to train students for careers in the insurance industry, according to officials.

Project InVEST, a program developed by the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of the San Fernando Valley, will provide students at the North Hills school with computer equipment, textbooks and industry speakers to help them better understand and prepare for careers in the field.

“They’ll be doing basic underwriting for personal, auto and homeowners insurance,” said Laura Andrews Clemens, co-chair of Project InVEST. “Also, they’re learning about insurance so they can buy insurance or buy their parents insurance.”

Clemens added that her organization is seeking help from local companies or sponsors willing to donate desks, chairs, filing cabinets or other equipment for the class. Donors should contact Clemens at the school.
