EASTSIDE : Women Sought for HIV Support Group
Behavioral Health Services, a drug recovery center with offices in Boyle Heights and Lincoln Heights, will offer a free support group for women diagnosed with HIV.
Bilingual recovery counselor Mary Cisneros will lead the group starting Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the East Los Angeles Family Recovery Center, 3421 E. Olympic Blvd.
“This needs to be available because we see the numbers of HIV-positive women going up in this area,” Cisneros said.
Cisneros has been contacting social service agencies to recruit participants for the group. It will give the women an opportunity to discuss everything from legal services to recovery from drugs and alcohol abuse.
“They need the help, although they don’t think they can get it. I hope (the group) grows,” she said.
