An array of musical groups will blare...

An array of musical groups will blare out their special sounds today at the City of Carson’s annual Cultural and Reggae Festival in Stevenson Park.

From Belize will come the sounds of The Dominators, with their mixture of soca, punta rock and reggae. New Experience, a rhythm and blues group, will also be featured on stage, along with another reggae group, 2nd Thots, a band that originated in Carson. Also on hand will be Dance Hall Band Jamaica Incorporated.

Jordan’s Caribbean Steel Pan Orchestra will feature the sweet tonality of calypso music, along with soca and jazz. From Trinidad and back by popular demand will be Caribbean Heat, a rhythmic dance group.

Fashion shows will be presented by two groups, Damali and Troop Group. Columbia recording artist Stormtroopaz also will entertain.

For children there will be a special area where they can play games and take rides. There will also be food on sale and a teen talent contest.

A new feature this year is the drill team and drum squad competition, which will be held at 10 a.m. The rest of the festivities will begin at noon and last until 6 p.m. Stevenson Park is at 174 Lysander Drive.
