American Airlines, British Carrier to Share Codes: American and British Midland Airways have agreed to list connecting flights through London’s Heathrow Airport under one flight number in computerized reservation systems. The “code-sharing” agreement gives the flights higher priority for booking and can give the impression to passengers that they are traveling on one carrier. Under the arrangement, American and British Midland stand to pick up passengers who might otherwise have flown on British Airways, American’s rival on transatlantic routes and British Midland’s competition for routes between Britain and Continental Europe. British Airways declined to comment on the partnership.
