VW Posts First Monthly Profit in a Year: The parent of Volkswagen, Germany’s largest car maker, reported a $40.8-million profit last month, the first black ink in 12 months, Chairman Ferdinand Piech said. A recent upturn in orders was a silver lining in a dark cloud for Volkswagen, which posted a massive $729.6-million loss in the first quarter of 1993 and a $207.2-million loss in the second quarter.
