Western Digital Fills New Executive Position

D. Scott Mercer has been appointed to the new position of executive vice president, chief financial and administrative officer for Western Digital Corp. in Irvine. He joined Western Digital, a computer products company, in 1991 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. In the new position, Mercer will have worldwide responsibility for the company’s administrative activities, including corporate services, real estate, information systems and human resources. He will retain his duties as chief financial officer with worldwide responsibility for finance activities. Before joining Western Digital, Mercer held senior financial management positions with technology companies, including Businessland and LSI Logic. He also worked at Price Waterhouse.

* Michael P. Nunez has been appointed to lead the state and local tax practice for the Orange County office of Deloitte & Touche. Before joining the Orange County office, he was a senior tax manager with the Los Angeles local tax practice of Deloitte & Touche.

* Craig Townsend has been appointed director of international sales development at Sechrist Industries in Anaheim, a manufacturer of life support products. Townsend was previously senior district manager at the Bentley Laboratories division of Baxter Healthcare Corp. He has also been director of European marketing and sales support and international marketing manager, Pacific Rim.

* Michael A. Peitler has been appointed vice president of worldwide sales for Emulex Corp., a Costa Mesa manufacturer of computer networking products. He will join the company Sept. 1. For the last two years Peitler has been senior vice president of sales for Thomas-Conrad Corp., a manufacturer of local area networking products in Austin, Tex. Before that, he was president and managing director of Datapoint Canada Inc. Peitler also spent five years with Philips Information Systems and 17 years with Xerox Corp.
