Georgian officials and secessionist leaders in the resort province of Abkhazia promised to honor a peace plan and withdraw their forces, but observers said both sides were violating the agreement. The Itar-Tass news agency said Abkhazians and Georgians made the pledge at a meeting of a tripartite observer committee--which also includes the Russian military--held in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi. The two sides promised to withdraw from conflict areas by early today, Itar-Tass said. But according to Russian television, the deadline has been extended until Friday.
