PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Robiskie Follows Shell’s Game Plan

Officially, Terry Robiskie, the tight end coach, was running practice Tuesday.

But in reality, Art Shell was still doing it.

Even though the Raider head coach was in a Los Angeles hospital, undergoing tests for diabetes, his practice plan remained in effect at the team’s Oxnard training camp.

“Art put everything together from day one to day 21,” Robiskie said. “We made a few adjustments, but we basically did what we would have done if Art had been here.”

Shell left a very detailed chain of command before leaving camp Monday night.

“He told us who was in charge,” defensive end Greg Townsend said. “He pretty much named everybody, so everybody is watching everybody else.”

Today is the Raiders’ last day in Oxnard. After a morning and afternoon practice, the team will pack up and head home.

Some players have been here since July 11.

“Everybody is excited to get out of here,” Robiskie said, “to get home and get into their own beds. But we know there is work still to be done.”

Part of that work is preparing for the two remaining exhibitions, Friday night against the Colts in Indianapolis and Aug. 28 against the Rams in Anaheim.

The Raiders are preparing for both games much the same as they do for any regular-season matchup, according to Robiskie.

“Pretty close,” he said. “You can’t just go out there and call it because you like it. We have to prepare for what they do.”

Offensive lineman Steve Wright left practice early after suffering re-injury of a shoulder.

Wright, who had recovered sufficiently from a previous injury to the shoulder to play in last Saturday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, figured to get plenty of additional playing time this week because of injuries to fellow offensive linemen Gerald Perry and Greg Skrepenak.
