COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : USC : Players End Camp, Will Salute Troy
The Trojans break camp after their morning workout at UC Irvine this morning, wrapping up their two-week preseason training camp. The coaches and players will attend tonight’s annual preseason “Salute to Troy” banquet at the Biltmore Hotel.
The 25th and 50th anniversary teams, 1968 and 1943, will be saluted.

This is the start of Coach John Robinson’s third tenure at USC, not his second. He was an assistant under John McKay from 1972 to ‘74, then coached one year for the Oakland Raiders before being called back to USC as head coach in 1976.

Looking at the list of USC passing-yardage leaders the other day, starting quarterback Rob Johnson observed that Rodney Peete leads with 8,225 yards, and that Todd Marinovich is second with 5,001. Johnson, a junior, is ninth with 2,343.
“I’ve got no shot at Peete,” he said. “But I can catch Marinovich, with two good years.”
