James A. Garfield, John F. Kennedy and Hoover elementary schools will have new principals for the 1993-94 school year as part of personnel shifts within the Santa Ana Unified School District.

The new principals will be Carol Bryan at Garfield, Sally Melton at Kennedy and Lucille Tambara at Hoover. Bryan and Melton were assistant principals at elementary schools while Tambara was an assistant principal at an intermediate school last year, said spokeswoman Diane Thomas.

Also, three teachers will become assistant principals: Maria Gutierrez-Garcia at Edison Elementary, Mary Ann Gilbreth at Greenville Fundamental, and Dennis McGeeney at Martin A. Heninger Elementary. Mayda Carnes, a former assistant principal who has been the district’s KidsNet program coordinator, will become assistant principal at Jose Sepulveda Elementary School, Thomas said.

Gutierrez-Garcia joined the district in 1981 as a kindergarten teacher and has also taught English as a second language.

Gilbreth and McGeeney joined the district in 1986. Gilbreth has been a resource and demonstration teacher and McGeeney has been a bilingual and language arts instructor and taught in programs for educationally at-risk kids, Thomas said.

Lucinda Clear, former activities director at Santa Ana High School, will replace Tambara as assistant principal at Carr Intermediate. Thomas said that Dee Gomez, former english-as-a-second-language department chair at Santa Ana High, will become that school’s activities director.
