Marvin Fisher; Composer of ‘When Sunny Gets Blue’

Marvin Fisher, 76, composer of such popular hits as “When Sunny Gets Blue” and “Destination Moon.” The son of Tin Pan Alley composer Fred Fisher, Marvin Fisher studied piano and music theory at the Institute of Musical Art, which later became the Juilliard School of Music. He began his career as a pianist and as an arranger for the big bands of Glenn Miller, Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey and Les Brown. He became West Coast representative of his father’s Fred Fisher Music Co. and eventually, with his brother Dan, took it over. Marvin Fisher also formed a subsidiary, Marvin Music, which published his compositions and those of Nat (King) Cole, Rosemary Clooney and Peggy Lee. Among his songs were “Cloud Morning” and “For Once in Your Life.” On Saturday in Southampton, N.Y., of a heart attack.
