DIVING : Best of ’92 Olympics to Compete at Pasadena
Diver Fu Mingxia, 14, whose flawless acrobatics off the platform captivated the sports world during the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, will compete today in Pasadena in the Alamo Challenge.
Fu, the 1992 Olympic gold medalist on platform, headlines the Chinese contingent.
Competitors from the United States, Russia and Germany, who joined the Chinese divers to win all 12 medals at the ’92 Olympic Games, complete the field at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.
Two divers from each country will face off in a finals-only format today and Saturday on the one-meter springboard, three-meter springboard and 10-meter platform.
The U.S. team, selected at the national championships at USC eight days ago, features three-meter 1992 Olympic gold medalist Mark Lenzi, platform bronze medalist Mary Ellen Clark and 1988 Olympians Mark Bradshaw and Patrick Jeffrey.
Competition begins today at 3:15 p.m.
