Lapine on Broadway: Shubert Organization president Bernard Jacobs confirmed that writer-director James Lapine will be working out of Shubert headquarters in New York. Lapine, whose play “Luck, Pluck & Virtue” closes this weekend at the La Jolla Playhouse, will move in immediately. While the relationship will not be exclusive, the Shuberts have “made a commitment to support him, give him space, see if he develops product and support the product,” Jacobs said. The Shuberts haven’t taken anyone in-house in many years. Pulitzer and Tony winner Lapine, 44, collaborated with Stephen Sondheim on “Sunday in the Park With George” and “Into the Woods” and with composer-lyricist William Finn on “Falsettos” and other musicals.

Marked Man: Marky Mark is in trouble with anti-bias groups again, this time for an anti-gay remark he allegedly made during a reported fight with an employee of Madonna’s Maverick Records in Los Angeles last month. Those groups include the New York chapter of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the Committee Against Anti-Asian Violence and the Anti-Violence Campaign.
