Share

Seventeen residents and business people have been elected to a community advisory committee that will help develop plans for attracting businesses and jobs to a 10-acre site in Watts.

Among those selected by area residents at an Aug. 16 meeting were Davis Rodgers of the Watts branch of the NAACP and Arturo Ybarra of the Watts/Century Latino Organization.

The group will focus on ways to create minority business opportunities at the Lanzit industrial site on 111th Place, between Lanzit Avenue and the flood control channel. The site is being sold to the city by Caltrans.

The committee will work with the Community Redevelopment Agency and Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas’ office and hold public meetings to discuss possible plans.

In addition to those elected, Ridley-Thomas will appoint one business and two residential representatives, as well as two at-large committee members.
