Next year marks the 15th anniversary of Interhostel, a program developed by the University of New Hampshire for active adults over the age of 50, and which offers more than 40 travel/study programs in 25 countries every year.

Interhostel should not be confused with another study program for seniors, Elderhostel, most of whose programs are offered at domestic universities. Both programs include guest accommodations on college campuses and a wide choice of study subjects, although Interhostel does provide off-campus living quarters in certain areas.

Interhostel programs include all meals, room accommodations, lectures by local experts and university faculty, field trips and sightseeing, visits to museums and nearby points of interest, meeting local residents, cultural performances and social activities, and ground transportation and air fare from the group departure city to program site and return. There are no membership dues.

Most Interhostel programs last two weeks.

Destinations include Burgundy and Paris, France; Budapest, Jerusalem and Venice. There are also programs in New Zealand, Nepal, Thailand, China and Australia. Programs in Europe depart from New York or Boston, and the price ranges from $2,350 to $2,795. Programs for China, Australia and New Zealand depart from Los Angeles and costs are somewhat higher.

A free catalogue describing Interhostel itineraries and program components, as well as prices, is available by calling (800) 733-9753 between 5 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. PDT.
