The Pajama Game

We thought we were hip, but not only had we never been to Mama Pajama, we admit that we had never even heard of it until an artist friend invited us to his opening amid the used-clothing racks.

Talk about Bohemian--this West L.A. thrift shop-cum-espresso bar located between Venice Moulding and a Blockbuster Video store, offers the occasional art exhibit, poetry readings and live music (everything except heavy metal).

And it’s a “sober bar,” meaning no alcohol is served or allowed in.

That makes sense because on Monday nights, the place is the site of AA meetings in French.

Finger-Lickin’ Fingos

Is it just us or has anyone else noticed a proliferation of people at public events wearing oversized cardboard boxes that read Fingos ? We didn’t even know what Fingos was (we’ve since learned it’s a cereal) when a group of runners in the Chai 5.5K Jewish Fun Run whizzed past our car a few Sundays ago, and there it was again--a runner sporting a Fingos box.

Fingos people have also surfaced at the Watts Summer Festival, the Lollapalooza Rock Concert, Nisei Week and even Mayor Richard Riordan’s first public bicycling outing earlier this month.

Now our fax machine informs us of the first Fingos charity event.

Inspired by Hands Across America, a Fingos Finger Chain on the beach between Santa Monica Pier and Venice Pier is expected to attract some 5,000 interlocking digits this afternoon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Assn.
