A federal judge in New York refused to grant Walt Disney Co.’s wish for an injunction to prevent a small company from selling its own “Aladdin” home video. The entertainment giant said the video is made to resemble Disney’s animated film of the same story. U.S. District Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum found that Disney did not prove its case against Goodtimes Home Video Corp. Disney’s video version of “Aladdin” is scheduled to go on sale in October. Disney home video chief Bill Mechanic, who called the other “Aladdin” a “parasite product,” said the company is disappointed with the decision. Said Goodtimes President Joe Cayre: “No company has a monopoly on public-domain stories.”
