Azusa : Aid for Prospective Teachers
Azusa Pacific University officials say a $50,000 donation from Bank of America will be used primarily to help Latina instructional aides from East Valley school districts get degrees and teaching credentials.
Patricia Bonner, the university’s dean of education, said the donation will help fund scholarships for aides from the Azusa, Baldwin Park and Covina Valley school districts.
She said the donation will help the aides fulfill a need for bilingual instructors at the elementary school level by helping them get bachelor’s degrees and teaching credentials.
Officials say 7.7% of the university’s 3,600 students are Latino.
