SIMI VALLEY : Library Visitors Can Sign Constitution
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library will celebrate “Constitution Day” on Sept. 17 by allowing visitors to sign an enlarged copy of the Constitution and distributing free pocket-sized copies of the document along with pins that read “I signed the Constitution.”
The library near Simi Valley is one of 100 locations throughout the country commemorating signing of the historic document in Philadelphia on Sept. 17, 1987.
“Presidents, in their oath of office, are sworn to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution,” library Director Ralph C. Bledsoe said. “So the Constitution is not only featured in the oath of office of our Presidents, it’s also the basis of what the Supreme Court does and is our general guide to daily life.”
Refreshments will be served at the library, Bledsoe said, and special films on the drafting, signing and meaning of the Constitution will be shown.
The library is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $4 general, $2 for people 62 and over, and free for children 15 and under.
