Two Teens Are Indicted in Death of Jordan’s Father

Two suspects in the slaying of basketball star Michael Jordan’s father have been indicted in Lumberton, N.C.

A Robeson County grand jury indicted Daniel Andre Green and Larry Martin Demery, both 18, on charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Law enforcement officials said Demery and Green robbed and killed James Jordan on July 23 while he was sleeping in his car and dumped his body in a creek.

Brad McCaughey and Darren Perkins each scored two goals to lead the Bullfrogs to an 9-4 victory over the Oakland Skates to win the Roller Hockey International championship before 8,809 at the Anaheim Arena. The Bullfrogs won the championship series, 2-0, after winning Game 1, 10-7, Friday in Anaheim.

The Atlanta Hawks have signed free agent center Andrew Lang of the Philadelphia 76ers to a six-year contract.

No terms were disclosed.

Senior forward Jevon Crudup was suspended from the University of Missouri basketball team for the first semester of the 1993-94 school year after he was arrested for drunk driving outside Columbia, Mo., last week.

The New York Yankees, Dodgers, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox are the most valuable franchises in professional sports, while Paul Allen of the Portland Trail Blazers is the wealthiest owner, according to Sports Illustrated.

In its current issue, the magazine ranked the value of each of the 109 pro franchises and found the Yankees to be worth $225 million. Next were the Dodgers, Mets and Blue Jays at $200 million and the Red Sox at $190 million.

The most valuable football team is the Dallas Cowboys at $175 million, while the top basketball franchises, each valued at $140 million, are the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks. The No. 1 hockey team is the Detroit Red Wings at $80 million.

Allen, 40, who founded Microsoft Corp, is worth $3.2 billion.

The committee searching for a successor to Fay Vincent as commissioner of baseball said that six to eight unidentified candidates remain under consideration, including at least one is a woman.
