Apple Computer Branches Out: The Cupertino, Calif.-based company has introduced its first hardware product for non-Apple computers. One of three new devices that attach to personal computers for extra sound and video capabilities is for IBM-compatible PCs. Analysts said the move represents a recognition by Apple that it should capitalize on its lead in the multimedia field and widen its appeal to users of IBM-compatible systems. The kit includes stereo speakers and a player for compact disc programs.
