Pacific Telesis Urges PUC to Override Ruling: The San Francisco-based parent of Pacific Bell urged the California Public Utilities Commission to ignore a judge’s opinion and allow the company to proceed with a $1-billion plan to spin off its wireless operations. Administrative Law Judge Gregg Wheatland ruled Tuesday that more information is needed before the commission can make a decision on the company’s plan to create a separate entity that would own the operations. Discussion is scheduled for Oct. 6.
