Violence has become so bad in South Africa that peace workers are now getting around in armored vehicles.

A South African company donated two armored vehicles to a peace monitoring group, allowing its workers to travel at night in black townships racked by violence.

Peter Harris, director of the Peace Secretariat, said the armored vehicles will have emblems and flags with the national peace symbol--two doves--to make them easily identifiable. They also will be equipped with water tanks and fire-fighting equipment.
