New Milk Brand Pledges No Hormones: A new brand of milk hitting store shelves in New England pledges on the carton that its farmers “never use hormones” to give cows a boost. Similar promises are being made by other dairy companies, even before the government approves a synthetic hormone designed to stimulate milk production. The move is angering some dairy producers who see nothing wrong with the hormone and worry that public declarations against the product could hurt milk consumption. The federal Food and Drug Administration is expected soon to approve commercial use of the synthetic hormone, bovine somatotropin.
