Gov. Lawton Chiles said Sunday that he will assign 50 more state law enforcement officers to the city and request a $4-million federal grant to hunt criminals who prey on tourists.

“Anyone who is hunting our people--either our citizens or our visitors--is going to be the game we’re going to be hunting,” Chiles said outside a Florida Highway Patrol station west of Miami International Airport.

After the announcement, the governor took off his tie and donned a bulletproof vest for a ride in a Highway Patrol car to tour the area around the airport.

German tourist Uwe-Wilhelm Rakebrand was killed in the same area last week.

Three people were arrested in the attack, and police say one confessed to the shooting.
