World IN BRIEF : SOMALIA : U.S. Rangers Raid Clan Chief’s Home

U.S. Army Rangers dropped from helicopters to raid the home of a Somali clan leader and arrested 31 Somalis, witnesses said. Rangers and other U.S. soldiers swarmed down ropes into the home of clan leader Ali Ugas and then broke into the neighboring house of Ahmed Jilao, chief of police under former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre, they said. It was the first raid by U.S. Rangers into northern Mogadishu.
