AIDS Thrift Shop Disburses $10,000

The AIDS Assistance Thrift Store awarded more than $10,000 in grants to seven nonprofit agencies in August.

The money will be used for products and services needed by adults and children living with AIDS and HIV.

The agencies are: Being Alive, Long Beach, $1,000 to help fund the support group “Living Well With HIV”; Catholic Charities, $1,000 for the purchase of bus passes from Long Beach Transit and special over-the-counter medicines; ONE in Long Beach, Inc./Project Ahead, $1,500 for personal care items, $1,089 for new computer equipment to maintain patients’ records, $1,000 for bus passes from Long Beach Transit; Pacific Hospital of Long Beach Foundation, $1,000 for Pentamidine medication for indigent HIV and AIDS clients; Santa Maria House Inc./Helping Hands, $1,000 for baby playpens, high chairs, cribs, and infant and youth car seats; Santa Maria House Inc./Loretto House, $1,000 for a new washer and dryer with extended maintenance contract; Santa Francis House Inc., $500 for replacement linens; Visiting Nurse Service of Long Beach, $1,000 to purchase home medical supplies for low-income HIV and AIDS patients.
