Canandaigua to Acquire Nation’s 5th-Largest Wine Producer: The beverage company said its previously announced deal to buy Vintners International Co. will involve about $143 million in cash plus stock options and assumption of some debt. Its deal with the Gonzales, Calif.-based company, originally announced July 1, is expected to close in mid-October. Vintners’ brands include Paul Masson, Taylor California Cellars, Taylor New York, Deer Valley, St. Regis and Great Western. Canandaigua Wine Co., based in Canandaigua, N.Y., has expanded rapidly, recently acquiring Barton Inc., a large producer of beer and distilled liquor. Canandaigua’s brands now include Corona beer, St. Pauli Girl beer, Manischewitz wines, Tsingtao beer and Barton gin and vodka.
