BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Expos’ Alou Has Ankle Surgery
Outfielder Moises Alou of the Montreal Expos underwent surgery Saturday to repair damaged ligaments in his left ankle.
Alou fractured a fibula and dislocated his left ankle in a base-running accident Thursday night during a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at St. Louis.
Two fixation screws were placed in the ankle to stabilize the joint. The foot and leg were put in a cast, and the prognosis is good that the screws and cast will be removed in six weeks.
“It looks like he could be back for spring training,” said Felipe Alou, his father and manager.
