Jake Kelchner passed for two touchdowns and ran for another Saturday night as West Virginia overcame a record-setting performance by Maryland quarterback Scott Milanovich in a 42-37 victory.

Milanovich completed 35 of 54 passes for 451 yards, breaking school records for completions and yardage. He passed for five touchdowns, tying a school mark.

Jermaine Lewis caught three touchdown passes to equal a Maryland record.

All that offense wasn’t enough to offset a porous Maryland defense that gave up 514 yards to West Virginia (2-0). The Terrapins came into the game ranked last among the 106 Division I-A teams in yardage allowed (593.5 per game).
