Advanced Compression Technology Inc., a private Simi Valley computer company, named Melvin L. Flowers vice president and chief financial officer. Flowers was formerly president of Pacific Earth Resources in Camarillo.

In his new position, Flowers succeeds Robert Weaver, who resigned in January to pursue other interests. Advanced Compression makes multiplexers and other communications devices for wide-area computer networks.

* Dole Food Co. in Westlake Village split its senior management into two lines, both reporting directly to Dole’s chairman David H. Murdock. Filling a newly created position, Ernest W. Townsend was named president of Dole Food Co.-North America, an executive vice president and a member of the office of the chairman. Townsend had been president of Dole’s fresh fruit and vegetable unit since he joined Dole last year.

David A. DeLorenzo was named president of Dole Food Co.-International, another newly created post. DeLorenzo, a 23-year management veteran of Dole, since 1990 had been president of Dole Food, a position that was eliminated in a reorganization. DeLorenzo remains an executive vice president of Dole Food, a director and member of the office of the chairman.

Dole, which has interests in food production, real estate development and resorts, said the executive changes give the company a more efficient management structure to focus on its individual markets and customers.

* Robert Gurevitch, a 52-year-old founder of New Image Industries Inc., resigned Monday as chairman, chief executive and a director of the Canoga Park dental-equipment maker.

New Image’s President Roger Leddington will assume the additional duties of chairman and chief executive. Leddington became president last month, when Gurevitch handed over that title.

Gurevitch, who also sold his 4% stake in New Image Monday, said his resignation was “very, very amicable.” He will remain a consultant to New Image through Dec. 31.
